Grave Mercy is full of action, adventure and secrecy. The main character Ismae escapes an arranged marriage to become a trained assassin, a handmaiden to Death. She is trained by nuns at the St. Mortain convent under the guise of being a nun herself. In this new life Ismae finds freedom, traveling the world and learning new skills to become independent.
There is something about Margaret Atwood's writing that I just find eminently readable, and this selection of short stories is no exception. Old Babes in the Wood (2023) is a mixed collection of stories. Many of them follow the lives of an elderly couple – Nell and Tig, with themes of aging, death, and loneliness.
It's summer, but snow is falling in Tokyo. Actually, it's not snow. It's ash. Ash fills the air, strange creatures of shadow stalk the streets, and a boy with a mysterious book struggles desperately to save his little sister from a unknown illness as the world ends.
Are you ready for another amazing epic fantasy featuring strong powerful women?
If you like The Wizard of Oz, stories about magical wizards and great magic wars this is the book for you. I personally enjoyed the way this book reminds me of The Wizard of Oz and Nevermoor.
This book has a magical town, unlabeled doors that lead anywhere, tea, and a main character who finds the courage to be themselves. Fin, the main character is filled with anxiety and has never lived in one place for too long. When she arrives at Aldermere, she starts to feel at home.
This book was so well written, I really enjoyed reading it. I had never before read anything by Kiersten White. The Chaos of Stars is about Egyptian and Geek Mythology. Isadora, the main character is the daughter of two Egyptian gods. She is a mortal who wants to escape the life she currently lives by traveling to America. Where she meets a boy who writes epic poetry, has a cool truck, and has the most dazzling perfect blue eyes. Isadora is fierce and doesn't care about romance; she wants to be independent and free.
V.E. Schwab has written numerous novels for teens and younger folk, many of them best-sellers. But it is her latest novel, her first intended for adult readers, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, that has firmly established her as a writer to be watched.
Need a well-written story full of secret plots, ancient magics, and scheming politicians while you wait for the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series? Or perhaps you just finished the Mistborn trilogy and crave another high adventure fantasy?
