Educator Services

WPL provides library materials to teachers and authorized school personnel in public, private or parochial schools located within the City of Wheaton or District 200 school boundaries for use in their Pre-K through 12th grade classrooms.

Materials checked out are expected to be used in the classroom. Schools are responsible for material checked out following the rules outlined in the Circulation Policy.

Library Cards

School Principals submit a list of authorized teachers to WPL annually.  Accounts are created or updated for teachers on the list and expire on August 31.  Anyone on the list may request Book Bags. Teachers who wish to select their own materials for their classroom may pick up a library card at the Ask Me Desk on the Main Floor.

Directors of preschools may register for a card at the Ask Me Desk on the Main floor or send an email to circ@wheatonlibrary.org. The school is issued one library card that expires on August 31.  Authorized users may request Book Bags or select items for their classrooms.

Home school educators are issued Resident library cards if they live within incorporated Wheaton, or Non-resident cards if they live outside of Wheaton and pay the non-resident fee.  Home School educators may request book bags or select their own materials.

Book Bag Service

Authorized teachers and home school educators may request materials for use in their classrooms. WPL will provide as many of the requested items as possible.  All items, including the bags, should be returned to the library by the due dates.

  • Book Bag Requests should be submitted to the library at least five business days prior to the desired pickup date
  • Book Bags not claimed within five days of the pickup date will be re-shelved
  • WPL may limit the number of Book Bags requested from a school or a specific teacher if necessary

Classroom Visits

Youth Services and Teen Services staff are available for virtual or in-person visits to your classroom. We can provide storytimes (Pre-K to Grade 5), book talks, and presentations or collaborate on programs.  Your classroom is welcome to visit the library for a tour to learn about our resources.  We can also provide a classroom program.
