Register Online
Residents who live within Wheaton city limits can register for a library card online. Parents must register their minor children.
Those who own property in Wheaton or live in unincorporated areas must register in-person. Wheaton College students must register in-person with their college ID.
Wheaton Library Cards
- Adults and their minor children who live within Wheaton city limits receive a library card for no charge
- Parents or guardians must register their minor children and are responsible for items checked out on a minor’s card

- Proof of address must be shown when registering in-person
- Resident cards expire after 3 years
- Adults who own property within Wheaton city limits receive a library card for no charge
- Proof of property ownership must be shown
- Everyone in the family receives a library card
- Wheaton Property Owners cards expire after 1 year
- Adults who own a business within Wheaton city limits receive a library card for no charge
- Requests must be received on business letterhead
- The business receives one card and the business owner is responsible for items checked out using the card
- Adults who live in unincorporated areas within CUSD 200 may purchase a library card
- The non-resident fee is based on the property’s assessed value and is equal to what a Wheaton resident would pay
- Everyone in the family receives a library card
- Proof of address must be shown when registering
- Non-resident cards expire after 1 year
Non-resident cards are available free to:
- Students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade who attend a Wheaton school and provide documentation that they participate in the Federal Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program at school
- Veterans and surviving spouses who provide documentation that they are exempt from paying property taxes on their primary residence
- Illinois driver's license or state ID
- Checkbook from local bank
- Utility bill (within 60 days)
- Lease
- Bill of Sale/Contract for home
- Automobile registration
- Mail with recent postmark (within 60 days)
With a WPL Card
- Check out and place holds on books, audiobooks, movies, music, video games and other items in our collection
- Check out and place holds on items in our Tech2Go collection
- Check out eContent, including eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers
- Access premium databases and online learning resources
- Borrow from other libraries through LINKin, WorldCat and Interlibrary Loan
With Another Card
If you have a card from another Illinois library:
- Register your library card in-person at the Ask Me Desk
- Check out items in our physical collections
- Tech2Go, eContent and remote access to databases are not available
- Hold requests and Interlibrary Loan requests are not available
