Watergate at 50

Although Congress reasserted some authority in the aftermath of Watergate, the executive branch has largely retained its status. Attempts at campaign finance reform have largely been suffocated by the Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United. Presidents during national security crises have retained their deferential position. Dr. David Goldberg, Professor of Political Science at College of DuPage, will discuss how the institutional legacy of the Watergate Scandal is less about finite criminal activity and more about the continued hyper-muscular executive branch, whether at peace or war.
