The Thursday Murder Club

Richard Osman’s debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, came to me as a recommendation from a friend who hadn’t read it, yet heard about it and thought of me. I’d take recommendations from a dirty shoe, so I went for it, and I had a great time.

An unlikely group of septuagenarians who meet weekly to discuss cold cases finally get a chance to investigate a real “live” murder. I’ve read lighthearted and funny mysteries featuring elderly amateur sleuths before, but the Thursday Murder Club stands alone. These people are solidly human – endearing, hilarious, and each with their own skeletons in the closet.

We follow the story from multiple perspectives, watching as each character solves a little piece of the puzzle. A great story for people who love loose ends tied up – very satisfying, and I’m not ashamed to say none of my initial hunches were right. Check it out before book #2, The Man Who Died Twice, comes out in September 2021.
