The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair

What I’m reading: The Secret Lives of Color, by Kassia St. Clair. This is the perfect book for me right now, especially as I’m cutting it with a chaser of a wonderful historical novel, A God In Ruins, by Kate Atkinson. But as for The Secret Lives of Color: with its color-coded pages, it is gorgeous to look at and wonderful to hold; the text opens up the qualities and effects of different colors of the spectrum, breaking them down from white to black into discreet shades and exploring the history, science, and strange narratives that lie behind each one. This book allows me to time travel, gain new knowledge, hear captivating stories, and experience visual pleasure all at once. In the best possible way, it is an escapist read for me during sheltering-in-place.
