The Scarlet Letter is a difficult read for many audiences with its vague symbolism that takes a deep dive to understand. Many of the major plot elements are very hidden to the average audience and I do not recommend the book. Although Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a world where you feel like you’re there the book drags on for many chapters. The ending is the worst part where it leaves you feeling incomplete and doesn’t give the satisfaction of an ending. If it isn’t required for your English class I would not recommend to read it as it isn’t a good read for most audiences.
