Rookie Move is the first in a series of romance novels centering on the Brooklyn Bruisers, a fictional NHL team. The central couple of the book, Leo Trevi and Georgia Worthington, were high school sweethearts. Six years after their painful breakup, Leo has just signed a contract to play for the Bruisers when he discovers that not only is Georgia the team’s publicist, but Georgia’s father—who can’t stand him—is the new head coach. Neither Leo nor Georgia are truly over each other, but their jobs and their personal history make getting back together complicated.
This is a deeply emotional book with plenty of sizzling romantic tension and a plot that’s driven by the characters’ flaws and the misunderstandings they create. Perhaps because both main characters are involved with hockey, it has a lot more sports terminology than the average sports romance. You don’t have to be a hockey fan to enjoy this book, but you will probably get more out of it if you are.
