Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game

Michael Lewis’ classic sports book holds up almost twenty years later. Scott Brick does a fantastic job narrating Moneyball (2003), keeping the pace moving and the subject engaging. Baseball statistics doesn’t sound like the most interesting of topics and yet, I couldn’t stop listening to the story of how Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane changed the way his organization analyzed prospects and built their team. With flawed protagonists and heartwarming stories, Lewis expertly weaves data and heart, personal stories and hard numbers. For fans of baseball (obviously) and those who enjoy understanding how things work.

I’m a bit late to the game, so next up is watching the 2011 movie adaptation written by Aaron Sorkin and starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
