The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is a tremendous book that is an enjoyable read while having deep themes of racism, sexism, and pride. With the use of vignettes each different vignette is its own story that relates back to the bigger picture. Cisneros creates a picture in the readers mind of how each locations looks and the characters within the story. While being an incredible read on the outside it digs deep into systematic problems that can arise from living in a neighborhood like Esperanza’s. It’s an important book to read for all ages and I heavily recommend it.
