Happiness Falls by Angie Kim

I just finished Happiness Falls (2023) by Angie Kim. The plot centers around a boy who has Angelman Syndrome, which is the same genetic disorder my daughter has. That level of representation was not something I ever expected to see in a mainstream fiction book. There is a LOT going on in this book – family dynamics (especially in relation to parents and siblings of people with disabilities), theories of communication, conversations about race, in addition to the mysterious disappearance of the father which drives the whole narrative. A worthwhile read, but certainly not an easy one.
