“A Gentleman in Moscow '' by Amor Towles is set in 1922 Soviet Russia and follows Count Alexander Rostov as he has to adapt to the changing world while trapped in a hotel. After being convicted of treason, he gets sentenced to house arrest inside a luxury hotel. Over the next three decades, he must adapt to the changing world around him with the help of Nina, a royal Ukranian girl. She helps him learn his way around the hotel and how to keep up with current news by spying on government meetings. While not being an action-packed novel chalked full of fight scenes and weapons, it is much more simple while still being complex. There is always something to keep the reader attached to the book until the very end. It is a great commentary on how people have to adapt to change and make the best out of their situations whatever they may be.
