Beasts of a Little Land is an epic saga set during Korea’s tumultuous history of Japanese occupation and the fight for Korean independence. It follows the lives of several characters; the most memorable being Jade, a young girl sold into a courtesan apprenticeship, and JungHo, an orphan struggling to survive on the streets of Seoul. 

Readers who like informative historical fiction and fans of Lisa See, Pachinko or Memoirs of a Geisha will enjoy this richly detailed debut novel from Juhea Kim. This book gave me more insight into the history of Korea and the quality of life for its citizens, showcasing their various struggles: for food, survival, independence, life and love.
