Tech Center Coordinator: Instruction Focus

The Wheaton Public Library is seeking applicants for the position of Tech Center Coordinator: Instruction Focus.  Responsibilities include providing assistance with the library’s public technology, coordinating all aspects of WPL public technology classes, including instruction, development, evaluation and scheduling and assisting with the supervision of the Tech Center.

Salary: $23.47/hour; includes Health and Dental insurance, PTO, Vacation and IMRF benefits.

Hours: 40 hours/week. Work weekends and evenings as needed.

Primary Position Details:

  • Assists users and staff with public computer equipment and software, the Internet and various databases.    
  • Works closely with Technology and Instruction Services Department Head to develop new public technology classes, including group classes, multi-part series, and training videos.     
  • Provides instruction to library users via 1:1 sessions, group classes, multi-part series and training videos.
  • Frequently evaluates and assesses technology instruction services to maintain relevancy and currency.  
  • Assists in developing training opportunities for Tech Center staff.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting as needed.    
  • Handles circulation of all Tech devices.
  • Assists in maintenance and operation of all circulating technology collections.
  • Works with Technology and Instruction Services Department Head to select circulating technology items.
  • Assists in management of 3D printing operations.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field with one-year experience.  
  • Have knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows OS and the Internet.
  • Be comfortable developing and leading group instruction classes for public and staff.
  • Be familiar and competent with all mobile devices.
  • Be current in computer operations, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

Scheduling:
This position may require working during any of the hours that the Library is open, including evenings and weekends. Although a weekly schedule is established, the needs of the Library may require schedule changes and flexibility.
